"If any of you lack wisdom, let
him ask of God, who freely gives to all, willingly, and it will be given to
him." (James 1: 5)
The purpose of prayer is not to move
God to our path. It is to move us in His way. It is to go toward what is His
will. Solomon said, "I need wisdom." That's exactly what God wanted
him to ask for. So the Lord gave him not only what he had asked for, but even
more.
Solomon discovered that the purpose of
prayer is to make his own will align with God. This is so important! Sometimes
we think that through prayer we will somehow convince God to do what we want
Him to do. I have even heard: "I was fighting with God in prayer."
Who won? I hope it was God. If you are trying to fight God, you will lose one
way or another.
What would you say if God came to you
tonight in a dream and said, "I'll give you what you want"? Your
answer will be a real indication of where you are spiritually, how you are
doing in the spiritual race.
We see that Solomon's heart was right
with God, because he said, "Lord, I need wisdom. I am oppressed with my
responsibilities."
Have you ever felt like that? Do you
feel overwhelmed by your parenting responsibilities? Maybe you're the director
of a company. Or boss at a construction site. Maybe you supervise others in a ministry.
Or you are a teacher in a classroom.
Everybody comes to you with problems.
Many times you feel like you can not handle it all. Say, "Lord, give me
wisdom." He will.
