"... and we were in our own eyes like
locusts." Numbers 13:33.
Sometimes difficulties take the lead on us
and make us see ourselves as incapable and inferior. Ten of the twelve spies
sent by Moses to spy out the promised land, looked with their natural eyes and
felt like grasshoppers before the enemy.
There was a word from God to that people, but
the human word prevailed at that moment. Sometimes obstacles look like giants
and we feel like weak grasshoppers. But God has strength to deliver us from sin
and the powerful claw of temptation, which at times appears to be an invincible
giant. We have to look back to remind ourselves of the powerful demonstrations
of this force. We have to look forward to looking at the heavenly goal. Then,
like the faithful spies Joshua and Caleb, we can endure the challenges of the
desert and receive the prize that God has promised: eternity in His glorious
presence, "For this cause also I suffer, but I am not ashamed, for I know
in whom I have believed and I am well assured that he is able to keep my
deposit until that day. " 2 Timothy 1:12.
Unbelief leads the Christian, inevitably, to
low esteem, to the complex of inferiority. Faith is the opposite of all this,
it leads the Christian to struggle, not to settle for an adverse situation, he
makes defeats only steps that lead to conquests and a life of greater intimacy
with God.
Let us look at ourselves as God sees us, more
than conquerors!
