"From the ends of the earth I cry unto
thee with a broken heart: set me on the rock higher than I" (Psalms 61: 2)
I realized that when I try to walk according
to the will of God and get involved in the things of God, I can expect
opposition from the enemy, the devil. Often, afflictions enter our lives not
because of our disobedience. Our afflictions, problems and difficulties can
also result from our obedience to God.
Remember Job and all the difficulties that
came upon him because he was a perfect and upright man, a man who feared God
and rejected evil?
And Nehemiah, who went out to rebuild the
walls of Jerusalem that had been overthrown and were in ruins. God had
instructed him to do this, but as soon as he had undertaken this great work for
the Lord, a man named Sambalath opposed him and threatened him. What did
Nehemiah do? Did he immediately stop what he was doing and run away? No.
Rather, Nehemiah did what James says we should do when we are in distress or
when we are in trouble. He prayed. He said, "Hear us, O God, for we are being
despised. He maketh them to mock [...] for they provoke thy wrath before the
builders" (Nehemiah 4: 4-5). Nehemiah cried out to God and brought his
troubles to Him.
As 1 Peter 5: 7 reminds us, "Cast all
your anxiety upon him, for he cares for you." So when the problem comes,
pray. Take your problems and your worries to God.
