Read Isaiah 30: 20-26
"Whether you turn to the right or to the
left, a voice behind you will say to you," This is the way; follow
him". (Isaiah 30:21)
We pray for things we need or want, for
family safety and strength in times of suffering. We pray often for guidance.
We want to know the will of God because there is security in it. When we live
outside the will of God, we feel unprotected.
We all want to live in the center of God's
will. That is why we should not pursue a career, change addresses or make any
major changes in life without knowing if that is God's will. The way to find
out is to regularly ask God to make it clear, and then beg him to guide us. God
will answer him and give peace according to his purpose for his life. How
wonderful it is to feel the peace that comes from the certainty that we are in
the way of God!
Often we no longer hear this voice behind us.
Instead we hear the surrounding voices; we hear our concerns and internal
issues; we are in a hurry and therefore we are advancing along the way and we
hope that everything will be resolved.
Isaiah uttered this promise about God's
guidance as he described people turning to God again. He had just prophesied
about divine compassion in expecting them to sort out their priorities. Once the
right priorities were established and the heart was drawn in the right
direction, the voice of God would guide them.
As you seek guidance, seek to hear the voice
of God. He's going to listen to her. Take a few moments to wait on Him and give
Him time to respond.
