"'Lord,' said Peter, 'if it be you, bid
me go to meet you on the water.' 'Come,' he replied. Then Peter got out of the
boat, walked on the water, and went to Jesus "(Matthew 14: 28,29).
If there is a man in the Bible who is often
quoted as an example of what not to do and not to say, this man is Peter.
However, he was also one of the greatest examples of faith in all of history.
When Jesus sent the disciples to the Sea of Galilee and there was a great
storm, they all panicked and became desperate. Then, as the day began to dawn,
Christ went up to them walking on the waters. When they saw Him, those men were
even more afraid, for they thought it was a ghost. Then Jesus said to them,
"Courage! It's me. Do not be afraid! "(Matthew 14:27).
Soon after, Peter said, "Lord, if it be
you, bid me go to meet you on the water." Jesus called him to go and the
disciple got out of the boat and began to walk on the sea in His direction. Do
you want an example of trust in the Son of God greater than this? Jesus told
Peter to go, but that required a lot of faith from that man, did not he? To
have faith is to refuse fear and doubt. Peter knew it was just him and Jesus,
so he remained determined. The sea was very busy and Peter did the impossible.
He waited for the command of Jesus and, looking at Him, challenged any obstacle
and walked on the water. That's faith!
We must build our faith in what the Word of
God tells us. We can not go around saying, "By faith in Jesus, I want
this," or "By faith in Jesus, I demand it." Instead, ask
yourself, "What does the Bible teach?"; "What shall I pray
for?"; "What shall I ask of God?" And just then, pray. Peter did
it. While he had his eyes on Jesus, he was able to do the impossible with his
faith.
