"For I will be merciful unto their
iniquities, and of their sins and their transgressions I will remember no
more." Hebrews 10:17
The author of the Letter to the Hebrews
communicated to us the most restorative dimension of God's love: "For I
will be merciful unto their iniquities - and their sins and their
prevarications I will remember no more" (Hebrews 8:12).
Centuries before, the psalmist sang about the
same mercy of the Lord: "As a father has compassion on his children, so
the Lord has compassion on those who fear him, for he knows what we are formed:
he remembers that we are dust" ( Psalm 103: 13,14).
God's restorative power, based on His
infinite love, was summed up by John when he wrote: "God so loved the
world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him
should not perish, but have everlasting life " (John 3:16). Only the Lord
has the power to completely forget our sins and has the power to renew our spiritual
integrity. When the Spirit convinces us of our sin, His purpose is to accept
His forgiveness. Asking for His forgiveness is necessary if we want to
experience His eternal life. God blots out our sins. Our attitude must be to
surrender to Him and submit to His loving lordship.
