"From the ends of
the earth I cry unto thee, with a broken heart: set me safe in the rock that is
higher than I." (Psalms 61: 2)
There is no doubt that
life is full of problems. We have concerns about the future, health, family,
finances and the list goes a long way ... Things happen that frighten us and
sometimes make us afraid. There are things that worry us, that leave us
alarmed, and that make us anxious.
Everyone worries in
some way. We all have anxiety. I admit that I'm worried and I do not say that
with pride. Worry is not a virtue. In fact, it can be a sin to the extent that
we are not relying on God. So I have a suggestion: the next time you're tempted
to worry, pray.
Prayer is the way God
helps us to overcome our anxieties and worries. Philippians 4: 6-7 tells us:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, and with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the
peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard their hearts and
their minds in Christ Jesus. "
Maybe God will take
away your problems. It is possible. But it may also be that He does not do it.
Here's what happens: you gain perspective. You see God as He is, and then you
see your problems as they really are. If you have a great God then you have a
relatively small problem. But if you have a big problem, it's because you
believe in a little God. You are not yet seeing God in His Glory and the
fullness of what He can do.
Prayer brings us the
peace of God and His strength to help us deal with what we go through: whatever
it is. That's what God does to the one who calls Him.
