The point is that every time we choose sin, we
choose the separation from God. He is absolutely holy and good. There is no
shadow of evil in Him and He will never accept sin. Because it is impossible
for anyone to live in God's standards of perfection, we desperately need the
salvation and the new birth that Jesus came to bring.
One day, a respected leader named Nicodemus
came to see Jesus with many intriguing questions. Jesus clearly told him,
"No one can see the Kingdom of God unless it is born again" (John 3:
3).
Nicodemus thought he was right with God because
he was religious and a good person, but Jesus made it clear that no one can be
saved because of religion or good works. If you are not born again, you can not
see the Kingdom of God!
Nicodemus was perplexed by Jesus' answer. How
can one be born again? Jesus explained that he was not referring to a new
spiritual but spiritual birth: "That which is born of the flesh is flesh,
but that which is born of the Spirit is spirit" (John 3: 6).
