Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: "Ah,
bless me and increase my lands! May your hand be with me, guarding me from harm
and freeing me from pain. " And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10
Few actually know what God's blessing is.
Many think they have the blessing of God
because in some areas they prove the grace and mercy of God in their lives.
All that we have of good, all that we have and
all that we have will come from God. However, what many claim to be God's
blessing is actually only the result of a great effort on their hands and the
permission of God to reap the fruit of what we sow.
We think that the fact that manna has fallen
from the sky to the people of Israel is a blessing from God. No! It is grace
and mercy of God caring for his disobedient children. The blessing of God would
be the land flowing with milk and honey.
Spiritually the same thing happens. Many
experience a few drops of whatever God's presence is, just a manna from the
sky, and they think that is the blessing of God. When the rain of God has not
yet come, for we are disobedient and far from His will.
God is good! God loves us and wants our good.
But He does not compromise with sin. God has no part in infidelity. But as a
loving God He gives us of His grace and mercy, that we may not be lost. But
these little drops are far from what God's blessing is.
The blessing of God is when we take our hands,
when we declare our bankruptcy, when I recognize that the fruit that will come
from the works of my hands is insufficient. That's when I cry desperately for
your presence and seek your face as a matter of survival for me.
So God resolves to pour out of His blessing
without measure. Not in mere moments, not just when you are preaching, not just
in one area of your life, but in all. So it was in the revivals. So it was in
the lives of a few men of God. So I want it to happen in my life.
But there is a price to pay. There is a cross
to be loaded. There is a way to go. The path of obedience. The path of
holiness. The way that decrees the own bankruptcy, that recognizes its
incapacity and declares the sovereignty of God on his life. The way that is
willing to go even to death to glorify the name of God.
Are you satisfied with the drops? Or do you
want the abundant rain of God?
