"For evildoers shall be uprooted; but they
that wait on the Lord shall inherit the earth. " Psalm 37: 9
Those who stand firm in the way of the Lord,
that is, the righteous will not be uprooted, shaken. This means that the
righteous will always be safe even if exposed to the adversities of life. This
security can be understood as Jesus himself. It is our assurance that, however
troubles come, we will survive them, because our hope is not in what we live in
this visible world. Our hope overcomes earthly reality, for it is in the
eternal life promised by Christ.
He himself said, "In the world ye shall
have afflictions, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John
16: 33b). It is because Christ overcame that we can have good courage, courage
to face afflictions, after all, they are fleeting, since they are earthly. We
may be affected in some way by the problems, but we will never be
"uprooted," that is, taken from the life we have in Christ Jesus.
Trust in the Lord and not in the circumstances you are passing through. You
will not be "uprooted" by anything that lives on this earth.
"It is better to trust in the Lord than to
trust in man." Psalms 118: 8
