"For all have
sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Being justified freely
by his grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Whom God purposed
to propitiate by faith in his blood, to show his righteousness for the
remission of sins hitherto committed, under the forbearance of God ";
Romans 3: 23-25
Where the power of sin
was made present, but the grace of God was revealed. In the face of human need,
which in this condition has nothing to offer and no condition to do any good
for salvation, two divine forces operated to make salvation possible for those
who were dead in their trespasses and sins: divine grace and redemption by
Christ. Justification is synonymous with forgiveness. The gratuitousness of
justification does not mean that it does not have a price. It is free to us,
and it cost dear to God: the life of Jesus. The grace of God means the divine
loving action of realizing our salvation not from human merit - we deserved
condemnation, but the acceptance of the sacrifice of Christ. In this, the gaze
of God is found not on what is in the human person, but on what is in Christ.
We are accepted as children through the redemption that is in Christ. It is in
the power of the blood of Jesus that it cleanses us from all sin that the power
of sin is overcome and the wrath of God is removed from us. In this condition
we come to have peace with God and eternal life. It is by the grace of God that
we are saved!
"For by grace are
ye saved through faith; and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
" Ephesians 2: 8
