"Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust in
him, and he will do it. " Psalm 37: 5
David begins his psalm 37 with a not-so-easy
recommendation: "Do not be envious of the prosperity of those who despise
the Lord." Our ground reasoning is very linear. For us, it makes no sense
to see people who do not do good to prosper more than those who seek to obey the
Lord. Nevertheless, the Bible's advice is very clear: "Put your life in
the hands of the Lord: trust in Him and He will help you" (Psalm 37: 5).
The Lord knows full well the difficulties we
encounter when we seek to put our lives in His hands. Trusting in God is very
difficult, but it is not impossible. The trick is not to depend on our
strengths and good intentions. The Evil One, our enemy, constantly deceives us,
teaching us to live by our own. Because of this, Paul said, "the Spirit
intercedes for us." And because of this, the Spirit of Christ welcomes us
and fixes us, every time we humble ourselves turn to Him.
In our intense struggle to maintain our
self-sufficiency, we can count on divine mercy and His infinite plan to restore
us. Returning to the psalmist David, let us listen to his counsel and try to
depend on the Lord: "Deliver your problems to the Lord and He will help
you. He never lets a person fail who obeys Him "(Psalm 55:22).
