"Enter
through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads
to destruction, and many enter through it." Matthew 7:13
Jesus speaks of
a door and a path. The door is like our conversion. It is a transitional
moment. It's something we passed.
After making
that decision, there is still a long way to go. As my friends say nordestinos
'It's down!'.
The wide and
spacious path calls us. In this way there is a lot of freedom. Give to rest,
relax, have fun.
Some say there
are several ways to follow Jesus (and please ourselves). It is common nowadays
to declare that all religions are valid. "God is one", they say.
But that way we
will get to life. Jesus is not called "one of the ways." Jesus
is "The Way" (John 14: 6).
And this is the
only path that leads to life. It is a path of self-sacrifice and obedience.
There are losses and privations. That is why it is described as
"narrow".
It is in this
way that we begin to see more and more the Father waiting for us ahead.
It is in this
way that we found a new will born in us, driven by the presence of the Holy
Spirit.
It was this way
that our Lord walked. For us to really know Jesus, there is no other way.
Keep walking. Do
not give up. There are always better days ahead you waiting. And no partner
better than Jesus at his side.
"And
thine ears shall hear a word of what is behind you, saying, This is the way,
walk ye in it, when you turn aside neither to the right nor to the left." Isaiah
30:21
