"Who touched me ?, asked Jesus. When all denied it, Peter
said, "Master, the crowd gathers and compresses you." Luke 8:45
Wherever he walked, there was always a crowd following Jesus. In one of
these wanderings, a woman suffering from constant bleeding was healed by simply
touching the clothes of the Master. The reaction of the Lord, to be touched,
was, "Who touched me?" (Luke 8:45). Peter, at least, found it odd the
insistent question of Jesus: "People You shake from everywhere: what will
be gained by identifying only one individual in the midst of a crowd following
us and press us"
In response to Peter, Jesus then explained that his question had nothing
to do with curiosity: "There was a moment, Peter, that I felt a release of
energy, coming from my inner and blessed one." Soon after, because Jesus
stopped walking, waiting for someone to denounce the cured woman gathered her courage
and described the Lord disease that oppressed them for years. "But now,
Lord, I feel with the body completely healed and renewed!"
Why do you ask of the Lord? It was not mere curiosity. Or because of a
statistical concern. To tell the woman healed "Your faith has saved
you" (verse 48), Jesus used the episode of healing, to teach us about the
relationship of faith. He wants to cultivate, every time that the trials of the
world in the attack, the courageous attitude of acceptance of His power and
loving restoration. The faith that restores our essence is that which brings us
publicly to touch Jesus. Every time we give public testimony to the power of
Jesus in us, we illustrate the faith that saves. And
that can lead others to be saved.
