"Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call him by the name of EMANUEL, Which translated is God with us." Matthew 1:23
In Matthew 1:23, God called himself
"Immanuel," which means "God with us!" Not only "God
made us," or "God thinks of us." Not just “God over us.” But,
God with us… God where we are. He breathed our air and walked this earth. God…
with… us!
Bethlehem was just the beginning.
Jesus promised a performance reprise. Bethlehem, Act Two. No silent night this
time, though. The heavens will open, trumpets will sound, and a new kingdom
will begin. It will empty the graves and melt the winter of death. Death, you
die! Life, you live!
The manger challenges us to believe
that the best is yet to come. I love Christmas because it reminds us how God
makes everything work for the good of those who love Him.
"And we know that all things work
together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to
His purpose." Romans 8:28
