"However, I also remember what can give me
hope:Thanks to the Lord's great love, we are not
consumed, for his mercies are inexhaustible. " Lamentations 3: 21,22There are times when providence seems too
sullen. Circumstances conspire against us, and feelings strike our breast with
disproportionate rigor. The prophet Jeremiah saw the city of Jerusalem
being devastated by the Chaldeans. The walls of the city were broken and the
temple razed to the ground. The old men were trampled like mud on the
streets and the young girls forced. Humiliation and pain tortured the people. In the midst of this whirlwind of pain,
Jeremiah said:
"I want to bring to mind what can give me hope."You may also be surrounded by difficult situations. Maybe you are being humiliated by enemies who oppress your life. Maybe the injustice thrives and you feel under the boots of the oppressors.Take your eyes off the circumstances. Turn your eyes to God and pray like the prophet Jeremiah. Even if the pain today seems incurable, bring to your memory that which can give you hope!"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, if there is anything excellent or worthy Of praise, think of these things. " Philippians 4: 8
